Dear Tempe High School Alumni,
Faculty, Staff, Family, and Friends
This is the first quarterly newsletter which will be sent to Tempe High School alumni based on the records in our alumni database (as well as via social media). The purpose of these newsletters is to inform you of upcoming events that are of interest to Tempe High School alumni and the Tempe community.
However, before reviewing the calendar, the Tempe High School Buffalo Foundation would like to say CONGRATULATIONS to the Tempe High School Class of 2020! We know these are unprecedented times and this is not how anyone would want their senior year to end, but we are confident that these experiences will help the members of the Class of 2020 grow into leaders and engaged members of the community who are more resilient and ready to take on the challenges that we are facing in our world.

The Buffalo Foundation is also extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to work with Dr. Kate Glenn over the past year. Although Dr. Glenn and Mr. Art Lebowitz were the co-interim principals, you never would have known it by the way they went “all in” on supporting the Buffalo Foundation and our students, so we wish them the best on their retirement – but we are also looking forward to meeting Tempe High School’s NEW principal, Mr. Brian Guliford, when school starts again in August. Welcome aboard, sir!
We are still in the process of finalizing the Foundation/Alumni calendar for the year, but this is what the current schedule of significant events currently looks like for the coming year:
Saturday, September 19th: Buffalo Classic Golf Tournament @ Ken McDonald Golf Course
Thursday, October 15th: Buffalo Roundup @ TBD*
*Ideally this will be held at Macayo’s Depot Cantina, but the location is not yet confirmed
October 15th – 17th: Tempe High School Class of 1990’s 30-year reunion weekend
Friday, October 16th: Tempe High School Homecoming Game
*Hall of Fame Game: This year, we are scheduled to recognize the 40th anniversary of the state champion wrestling team and the 30th anniversary of the state runner up basketball team (& possibly others that I am not aware of) – but we are searching for an appropriate date/ venue to recognize these teams.
Tuesday, November 10th (not confirmed): Annual Veteran’s Breakfast
Spring 2021: Ring of Honor Ceremony for the 2020 inductees (distinguished alumni)
The Buffalo Classic Golf Tournament is our PRIMARY FUNDRAISER for the year and is a GREAT time (even for non-golfers) and all proceeds go to support our students. Please contact our Golf Chair, Matt Patt, ‘93 ([email protected]), if you are interested in playing or donating.
It is important to note that regardless of whether you have taught (or are teaching) our youth in the classroom or coached them from the sidelines, are engaging with your fellow alumni to keep our traditions and spirit alive in the community, or are donating financially to provide our youth with some of the same opportunities and enrichment experiences that students at other schools enjoy – YOU are making a difference in the lives of our students and the Tempe High School community as a whole.
